Every metropolitan city has a metropolitan university named after it to serve for the social economy. Metropolitan university, is deeply rooted in the metropolitan city, serving her with the global vision. Metropolitan university is closely networked with every aspect, and branches in various parts of the city. This is the new university development model in recent decades. Led by practical education and applied research, with close collaboration with the city government and industries,metropolitan university becomes the base and platform for integration of industrial practice and scientifific research, education innovation and entrepreneurship.

Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities 2023 Annual Conference and Presidents’ Forum take place in Guangzhou and discuss university and city developments

To strengthen cooperation and exchange among members of the Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities (GCMU) and promote sustainable development, the Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities 2023 Annual Conference and Presidents’ Forum took place recently in Guangzhou. This year’s conference was hosted by Guangzhou University. 

CityU inaugurates Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities and holds Presidents’ Forum to promote sustainable development between universities and cities

The City University of Macau hosted the Inauguration Ceremony of the Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities cum Presidents’ Forum today (24) at the Taipa campus. with the theme of “Joint Effffort to a Shared Success: Sustainable Development of Universities and Cities”. The event aimed to strengthen cooperation among member universities and to stimulate multi-dimensional integration and interaction between universities and cities. It was held online and on-site and attracted university leaders and experts from over 10 universities in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, mainland China, and Taiwan to take part.

The 1st President Forum on University Development and the Preparatory Roundtable on Global Alliance of Metropolitan Universities

 As the City University of Macau celebrated its 40th anniversary, it invited leaders of different universities to gather together and talk about opportunities for development and cooperation among universities and discussed about the establishment of the Global Alliance of Metropolitan Universities, which would look at ways to deepen and facilitate cooperation and exchanges. The Forum was attended by more than 70 leaders and representatives from 19 local and Mainland universities. There were also 10 leaders and representatives from Taiwanese and overseas universities participating online. Liu Limin and Wang Yongli, respectively President and Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange, Teng Sio Hong, Deputy Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR and CityU Rector Jun Liu officiated and spoke at the opening ceremony.
