Launched in 2022, the Global Consortium of Metropolitan Universities (GCMU) aims to unite higher education institutions whose missions are to drive the social, economic, and intellectual vitality of the cities which in turn serves as living laboratories of experiential learning, applied research and community engagement, for the aim of mutually beneficial sharing of academic resources and best practices, collaborative knowledge creation, and enhancement of members’ academic prestige and international visibility.
Member universities of GCMU have collaborated over the past 4 years on various projects and programmes that have proven to be hugely successful and influential in promoting staff and student exchange, joint degree programmes, joint seminars and publications, cultural activities, etc.
The GCMU Secretariat is based at the City University of Macau and the incumbent chairman of the Consortium is Professor Jun Liu, Rector of the City University of Macau.
As the Consortium develops and its impact on member universities’ academic and educational profile increases, the current member universities have all felt the need to increase our membership to a larger international community for like-minded universities worldwide to grow hand-in-hand within the scope of GCMU.
